The Game of Thrones prequel show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, has shut down due to the writers strike. Based on the works of George R.R. Martin, HBO is all in on the Game of Thrones franchise with House of the Dragon season 2 and many more spinoffs in development. Of all the spinoffs in development, the laboriously titled Dunk and Egg series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, is the only one that has received a straight-to-series order from HBO.

Martin revealed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has shut down development as the WGA continues to strike for fair wages and increased job security. The author announced that the show's writer's room will shut down for the duration of the WGA strike.

In addition to the Game of Thrones franchise, Martin also provided updates on his other shows. Dark Winds season 2 will air this summer on AMC, though a decision on its season 3 renewal won't be made until after the strike. After Peacock passed on Wild Cards, Martin won't continue shopping the series around until after the strike is over.
