Classic TV series returns to Toronto to film a reunion movie Toronto

Canadian actor Jason Gray-Stanford, who plays the loveable but less than bright lieutenant Randy Disher, is active on social media and has been posting on the cast's time in the city.is slated to stream on Peacock in the U.S. There's no release date for a Canadian platform announced yet. All that's been revealed about the plot is that it's set post-pandemic and involves Monk's journalist stepdaughter, Molly, preparing for her wedding.

Nearly all of the first season was filmed here and these episodes are awash with local sights as they were in the early-2000s. Humber Bay Park, Shouldice Hospital, and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre are a few of the many locations sharp-eyed couch sleuths can spot masquerading as San Francisco. Mississauga's city centre also makes a couple of appearances.

Most visible was the Tip Top Tailors building on Lake Shore—just prior to its loft conversion—which stood in for police department headquarters. Establishing shots of the exterior continued to be used in later seasons. Toronto in the early aughts was a very different place than it is today—with a smaller skyline, affordable living, and abundant fibreglass moose, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our city's popularity as a stand-in for other places in movies and TV.
