“Those pictures are misleading,” she said, referring to the post-race snaps. “I did not sprint through the streets of New York City,” she admitted.“I texted my sister during the thing, ‘This is the worst day of my life,’” adding that her personal pride was what helped her finish the race. “I must complete this because I don’t want to not finish. I walked a lot.”, which provides educational opportunities for Black and Latinx youth on justice and equity.

Kemper finished her grueling marathon day with a time of 5:17:39—not bad for three months of training.
