The evidence that this is happening is from the loud squealing as the train goes around the corner, the corrugation patterns on the tracks surface, and flat spotting of wheels. This is inevitable given the combination of solid axle and the tight corner radius. This slip-stick condition sets up high-frequency vibrations that put stresses into the axle bearings and drive assembly — leading to rapid wear and eventually fatigue failures.
Tight curve radii are used in tramway systems but the speed requirements for the LRT system and the size/weight of the cars compared to typical tram systems mean they are not appropriate. . Until this issue is addressed these problems won’t go away.The amount of people I’ve seen speeding during my few months as a new driver is quite concerning. Unless someone is dying or giving birth in your back seat, you do not need to be going that fast. Please slow down.
