The FBI released and then retracted a photo of the man who authorities have accused as the gunman in connection with the Cleveland mass shooting that killed 5.

Law enforcement authorities investigating a scene where five people were shot and killed the night before Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Unincorporated San Jacinto County. The suspect Francisco Oropeza, who lives next door, is still at large.Officials with the FBI early Sunday released a photo of a man they alleged was connected to the— before pulling it from their social media pages a short time later.

However, the photo released was not of the correct suspect, according to Connor Hagan, a spokesman for the FBI’s Houston field office. Officials with the federal agency later released several photos of Francisco Oropesa, who it earlier had identified as Francisco Oropeza. The name change also is to better reflect his identity in law enforcement databases, Hagan said.Going forward, the subject's last name will be spelled"Oropesa" to better reflect his identity in law enforcement systems. This remains a fluid investigation.
