Ford's future-forward cars and coffee car show harkens back to the event's past glory.

, forcing the loose band of organizers to find a new home. One of those initial organizers was the then head of Ford PR, John Clinard, who offered up the parking lot of Ford's Premium Automotive Group building in nearby Irvine to be the temporary home of what would eventually become known as cars and coffee. Temporary ended up being several years, until Ford sold off the PAG building in 2008.

Ford CEO Jim Farley told us that this event was something the company wanted to do for some time, but the pandemic got in the way."We had the event in Irvine, as you know… but need to start building it here. They tried it back in October , and it was pretty small, but growing. This is the first real one," said Farley.

And what an event it was, blessed with perfect weather, hot coffee, and well-metered out donuts . It's the kind of curated car show you don't see just anywhere. Ford made a strong showing with numerous examples of its internal combustion and EV-powered Mustangs and trucks parked out front, including Farley's personal 1,100-hp Hennessey Ford Mustang GT500.
