CNN to debut new primetime show ‘King Charles’ with Gayle King and Charles Barkley

CNN will launch a new primetime show with veteran anchor Gayle King and basketball great Charles Barkley.The pair revealed they were teaming up in a Saturday announcement on TNT, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company.

In public statements, King and Barkley stressed that the show would emphasize comity and respectful discussion. “I just think we need to figure out a way to have a good conversation without tearing each other down,” she said.“All I want is people, even if I disagree with them, to be honest with me. I don’t want them saying things to get clickbait. That is one of the things that is what drives me crazy about people in our profession right now.”

While “King Charles” will tackle current events and politics, “we don’t want to say, ‘We’re a liberal, conservative, Republican, Democrat’ — that’s one of the things that’s already ruined television in general,” Barkley said.
