Performing Arts Houston, formerly known as Society for the Performing Arts, is the grab bag of the city’s arts organizations: a dance troupe or two, comedians and virtuoso musicians for sure, maybe a celebrity author or stage musical for good measure. If many of its performers defy easy pigeonholing, so much the better.
Late last week, PAH revealed its 2023-24 season, eclectic and enticing as ever.
Also noteworthy are the local debut of Step Afrika!, the step company founded by native Houstonian C. Brian Williams ; a Day of the Dead-themed performance by Grammy-winning Mexican singer-songwriter Lila Downs; the 50th anniversary tour of New York’s Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo; and classical-crossover trio Time For Three. New commissions for PAH’s New/Now initiative, which has fostered 19 world premieres by local artists since 2020, will be announced in January.
