In September 2017, Angela Koh and Sammy Shubbar matched on Hinge, agreeing to grab a drink in the East Village a few days later. Little did they know, it would be the first ofthat night. “We both didn’t want to end the date and continued to bar-hop until 4 a.m.,” Angela recalls. “We finished off the date with fried chicken and beer.”
The couple wed during an intimate ceremony on August 13, 2022, at Buttermilk Falls Inn in Milton, New York. Angela, a fashion editor atdebut bridal collection. “I’ve been a fan of Molly Goddard since the beginning,” says Koh. “She creates these dreamy tulle dresses that make me feel like I’m playing dress-up.” She paired it with Maison Margiela low-heel slingbacks and flower-shaped diamond earrings by Briony Raymond.
Sammy, who works in digital marketing at Johnson & Johnson, wore a beige Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane suit from spring 2006 that they found on eBay, fitted by tailor. On his wrist, the groom wore a vintage GMT Master II Rolex borrowed from his eldest brother, Ramsey. The rare timepiece originally belonged to his late father, who immigrated to the United Kingdom from Baghdad in the 1960s.
The couple held their cocktail hour and reception at Buttermilk Falls Inn’s barn. Their violinist Mylez Gittens played songs by SZA, Wizkid, and Pop Smoke while guests drank local Hudson Valley beers. Angela, who did most of the wedding planning herself, with a little help from a month-of coordinator at Ruffles & Tweed, designed her decor to be kaleidoscopic. “I wanted our tables to feel whimsical and abstract with lots of juicy colors,” she says.
