A man who shook a three-month-old baby so hard that the child now suffers long term disabilities has been jailed for 14 years.
As he searched for a phone to call the child's parent, to ask her to collect the baby, he held the infant by the baby grow and shook with such force the baby suffered brain injuries. The baby suffered bleeding to the brain and bruising to the temporal lobe."It was not inconsequential", said Judge Robert Altham, sentencing. "It was far outside any normal handling of a child.
"I am sure that the account the defendant gave is untrue," Judge Altham, the Honorary Recorder of Preston, said. The court heard Mohammudi came to the UK as a refugee and has C-PTSD as a result of his experiences in Afghanistan. He claimed his condition was triggered by a TV program when he attacked the baby, but Judge Altham said: "It was evident from the trial that this defendant will say anything he thinks will help him."
