IT prequel series Welcome to Derry reveals four cast members, including stars of Watchmen and Godzilla vs. Kong. In Stephen King lore, the seemingly quiet Maine town of Derry is doomed to be terrorized every 27 years by the return of the mysterious alien entity known as Pennywise. However, in the upcoming HBO Max series Welcome to Derry, it very possibly won’t be Bill Skarsgård’s killer clown bringing the horror, as Skarsgård himself recently revealed.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Pennywise actor Skarsgård may not be among the cast members headed to King’s idyllic-but-haunted Maine village in the IT prequel show, but Welcome to Derry will nonetheless feature a solid roster of actors, four of which have just been revealed. As reported by Variety, the first announced cast members for the show are Taylour Paige , Jovan Adepo , Chris Chalk and James Remar .
How Welcome To Derry Could Work Without The Movies' Pennywise Details about the characters set to be played by the newly-announced Welcome to Derry cast members are of course being kept under wraps. Most of what's known story-wise about the new show is contained in the brief synopsis which reads, “Set in the world of Stephen King’s IT universe, Welcome to Derry is based on King’s IT novel and expands the vision established by Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two.
That synopsis leaves a lot of latitude when it comes to what Welcome to Derry will actually explore. According to reports, the story is set in the 1960s, 27 years before the events of the first IT movie. This could mean the show will feature Pennywise, but a different incarnation of the entity than the killer clown seen in the films. Having Pennywise take on a different form would make it easy enough to explain the absence of Skarsgård, if indeed the actor does not sign on for the show.
