Most people who watched The Rings of Power never finished watching the show, with new data suggesting less than half of viewers completed the series.

New data indicates that most The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power viewers never finished watching the series. The Prime Video original tells the story of the Second Age of Middle-earth, chronicling Sauron's rise to power prior to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The series has been criticized for slow pacing, as well as inaccuracies to J.R.R. Tolkien's writings about Middle-earth, though its massive scope received plenty of praise.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewership for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power may reflect the critiques, with only 37 percent of viewers finishing the series domestically. The series' completion rate overseas was 45 percent; however, that still indicates less than half of those who start watching The Rings of Power end up finishing it.

How Will Rings Of Power's Season 1 Viewership Impact Season 2? Despite The Rings of Power's viewership being considered a success by Prime Video, the fact that less than half of viewers seemed to finish the series after starting to watch it is concerning. The series is also the most expensive TV show ever produced, leading to questions of whether the investment is truly worth it.

While many leaving the series unfinished isn't a good sign for The Rings of Power season 2's viewership, it's possible that a slight tweaking of the show's pacing may help bring more people back. There's also the possibility that many viewers simply tuned out after episode 1, which is common if a pilot episode doesn't entice audiences right away.

It sucks balls

Absolute triumph. For the real fans of Tolkien, of course. One fandom with balls.

Yep. Show is crap.

Never made it past the first episode

And with good cause.

It was so boring and I didn't care about any of the characters. Really disappointed with it.

Is this uncommon? I would have guessed that, with today's abundance of choice and dwindling attention spans, a roughly 50% retention rate would be considered a success?

Because it was garbage

15 minutes and turned it off

I didn’t.

You mean less than a quarter?

Fell asleep every episode

Because it was crap

I wonder why 🤔😄

You said it was a massive hit, last year. What changed? Shill-checks stopped coming in?

It was Galadriel swimming across the sundering sea for me

I think they said only 34% finished ?

Yes. It was shockingly shit. Managed 2 episodes and gave up. Only thing worse was She-Hulk and that bar was so low you’d need to dig for days.

To be fair it wasn't very LOTR. More just some random fantasy series.

Well it was awful fan fiction so not surprising.

The show is high end cosplay in the park.

I loved it. Totally worth watching if you love the genre.

Not surprising at all.

Past the eye candy, it really was a tough watch. Let's hope season 2 fixes the issues of season 1.

Yeah I still need to finish it. Went to the theater to watch the first 2 episodes then kinda fell off at the end. Tried to watch but only got to the middle of episode 4.

Well I did and it was alright

I’m one of them

I finished and I enjoyed it too

unfortunately the casting was wrong, and some of the acting and accents were just bad, the story was not that interesting and to be honest it did not feel as if you were in middle earth or the lors of the rings universe..

Is this surprising?

The show is fantastic and has a lot of great unique ideas. I got too busy to finish a lot of my new attempts, like Succession. But it's on my list to finish. If anything, they maybe need a little more focus on character presence, maybe.

I gave it 4 and a half episodes and even though I hear it got a lot better after the 5th episode (which isn’t saying much, I mean the bar was so low by that point) I was so checked out by then, it really didn’t matter to me. House of the Dragon was 10 times better imo 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because it was fking awful

I watched all of it…it was well done but House of a Dragon won this fight for me…hopefully season 2 will be more interesting

I hardly watched the first two episodes😅

Me.

And the Marvel series? The Star Wars series? Where are the deets on the other shows?

1st half of the show was so fucking bad. I can't believe I even finished it. But honestly the ending was the best part of the show. Sadly they fucked up the first 5 episodes.

It was a really good show....loved it so much...why do people hate it :(!?

The show was terrible. The showrunners are clueless. They spent 1 Billion Dollars and we got something that should have been on the CW!

I’m trying to remember if I started it

I like the show. I watched it all when it came out and rewatched it recently. Great epic fantasy television! I’ll take it.

I didn't make past episode 3

Crazy. We loved it 🤔

Well nothing happened for 5 or so episodes. 🤷‍♂️

It's a shame cause while I agree it was slow early on and had a lot of jumping around it got much better as it went.

Because it was a snooze fest.

I’m calling bullshit on that

lies. i did and i enjoyed it. stop the cap

It was boring that's why.

2 episodes in i was done

That's not good news

A $1 Billion investment, and they couldn’t even get 50% of its viewers to finish season 1 😳😵‍💫 -$500M - production budget -$250M - rights to the Tolkien Estate -$200M-$250M - Marketing **Amazon Hired Show-runners who had never produced a show before** 🤦🏼‍♂️

This data is going to become as important as box office $$. This is more targeted info than butts in seats.

Probably because it was absolute CRAP !

i completed it twice loved it.

Not sure how you can prove that. The show is the most watched show in Amazon Prime’s history. You can track user accounts I suppose. But what if people used multiple user accounts? What if people went back and rewatched specific episodes? Just saying … numbers get skewed

The sea is always 👍 epic writing

I did, unfortunately. I won't be coming back.

Brilliant show

Do most shows have a majority of viewers that finish watching it? I wouldn’t think so.

Yeah. Didn't get past episode 2 or 3.

Gee...i wonder why

I haven't even started it yet 🤣

I feel sorry for the actors that wanted to make a good job, and hopefully they won't be known for this. If you give a show to people that don't respect the material and the fans, it's likely you are gonna end up with a hated show. Just goes to show you need to hire professionals.

Ooof

Not everyone's cup of tea. Enjoyed it w lavender tea and Graham crackers

That's a shame. It's a pretty good show, I loved everything.

House Of The Dragon clears so hard

Fascinating, decent, amazing. This words are used to describe Amazon's trash without actual ring. Since it's release we have heard 1000 reason why this series is a trash. How is that I have never heard of anyone praising this trash. Explain what exactly makes this crap Decent?

The only way that I made it through the entire show was to view it as a comedy. In that regard it came through with flying colors.

I watched the whole show and found it too slow, the main character (Galadriel) dislikeable, she is like the opposite of the Galadriel of the books and films. The plots in general seemed very weak, the cliffhangers were a bit too forced. Overall I don't think it's a good show

I love LOTR and have Prime, haven't even watched it, screams turd!

Hahahahahah. this show was absolute shit! no Emmys no Golden Globes - and hardly any viewers 😂😂😂😂

Is that so different from other shows?

Me too include

To be fair think of the amount of people who watched the 1st episode with no intention of giving it a chance. It was always going to drop viewers due to the 'woke hater' brigade. Most people who genuinely were giving it a chance carried on. It was decent. Hopefully it gets better

I'm one of them 🖐️

Wrong!me and my family and friends devoured the series and couldn't get enough of it. I have no idea where you got this data from

I enjoyed it for the most part. I don't understand what all the hate is about.

Yep, and i must say i do that rarely... like really rarely - big shiat that show was....

Guilty

I'm not surprised, I haven't watched the series yet but I've seen many people say it was boring and they stopped watching after the first couple of eps.

vielned Hmm fascinating 🤨

Yep, I was one of those people. Didn't make it past episode 2.

I liked it personally.

I was bored after the first 2 episodes. I never watched it again. I think they did a terrible job at storytelling. Bring Peter Jackson back and perhaps it might get better. On the flip-side, I watched House of the Dragon and Last of Us and thought they were awesome HBO

That’s what happens when push woke garbage into a show.

It just never really took off, but, it kinda follows the LOTR formula, a big reveal, end credits as we watch someone walking up, across, over a mountain or some such.

There were good parts and some impressive visuals at times, but it felt like work for a good chunk of the season

Too bad. It kind of all came together in the end. And the way it came to an end didn’t really conflict w any of the books.

I managed two episodes before dying of boredom. Season 2 of Wheel of Time got shunted aside for that? Booooo.

RedOnWhiteFilms That’s what happens when you get decent scriptwriters in for the first three episodes and then ask a twelve year old to write the rest.

They should, it was brilliant.

I stopped after 30 min of first eps. After that I just watch a lot youtubers roasting every new eps

Seems about right, people's attention spans are worse than ever nowadays

I watched the one episode and they was enough for me, in comparison I watch House of the Dragon and liked it a lot more. It kept my attention. I never watched Rings of Power again after that.

The series was not good. It was an insult to LOTR fans .

We finished the show even though we knew the big reveal. Also hoped it would get better as it went along........we were wrong.

We made it to ep 3

As someone who watched 3-4 episodes, I'm not surprised.

I got distracted and never bothered to retract...(?) But the main character should play Sylvanas in the next Warcraft movie.

Certainly was heavy going in places and I watched it all must admit to fast forwarding here and there

Cause it was BORING….

Don't trust your analytics. Most real fans block all that crap 🤣 notplebs

George_Astbury one episode left

I need season two

Because it was shit.
