While film makers romanticise the second world war this will happen, my father-in-law was in the navy and wouldn't talk about it. All he would say was why would you want to talk about something so horrendous to him.

The simple answer is that it has provided a founding myth for a western elite that benefits from the illusion that all questions of politics are as simply answered as 'not fascism', and moving inexorably to the left of an imaginary political binary.

Because you defend fascism in Ukraine!

Because of the similarity of Horrors you committed in your colonies and do not want repetition at your doorstep...

Because it’s the only one you helped in winning.

Because it’s ‘Where Eagles Dare ‘💫

Britain started a war then got a good spanking until the USA got involved. But rewrite it to suit.

To distract us from the Cold War.

Because nostalgia sells.

Because of Richard Burton and Clint the squint? Tad superficial n’est pas?

Who is we

There are still living beings who remember it... not so for WW1... maybe?

It gave me a good job !

It's probably something to do with the fact that for our parents and grandparents generation it was 6 years of their lives that absolutely engulfed their entire lives, so we have grown up hearing the stories and watching the films. It is important to know a lot about it.

Cos it's been glamorized and mythologized for decades?

We love an underdog ....that's why.

Vicarious glory hunting.

Because we won?

If it wasn’t for the events of WW2 you lot wouldn’t be printing the shite you do, it would be heavily censored German 🙄

I'm not !!

Why Labour MPs could regret trying to call Corbyn's bluff on backing a Second ReferendumOne of Westminster’s most enduring truths is that whenever someone talks about the need for “a show of strength”, they are about to do something stupid and self-destructive. 71 days to Brexit. We decide to hold a 2nd referendum. The required repeal of the EU Withdrawal Act and legislation for a Referendum Bill takes four months. The campaign runs for 6 weeks. It's August. We vote 52% to leave. And we're back where we started 3 years ago. What then? Just reported Philip Hammond assured 330 business leaders that MPs will not let No Deal happen. So why wouldn’t Theresa May afford Jeremy Corbyn the same privilege today? We are governed by duplicitous incompetent liars. !
