Having read this academic book, I'd say it makes an excellent case for many writers of the Shakespeare work with Bacon as one of them. Those who push the case for just one author (Oxford, Neville, Marlowe, Bacon) are blinkered and dogmatic. It's uneducated thinking.
There's a piece in Sunday Times mag today on Mark Rylance with academic support for his views in new book. A lot of guys spouting here haven't even bothered to look into it. Quick free registration
Oh shut up Rylance. Start shouting your mouth off when you have any one singular piece of actual evidence.
Mark Rylance has been my favourite actor since I first saw him in 1988. But he is not a scholar and it embarrasses me greatly to hear a man whose acting talent I so greatly admire talking such nonsense. Almost as much as it would embarrass me to watch Stanley Wells play Falstaff.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, you now have a new scholarly book based on PhD work presenting new evidence. You could read it and check out if your 'established truths' are in need of revision.
Good actor, total tosspot
Aaarghhh!
Thank goodness The Guardian is the lowest circulation national newspaper. At least not many people have to read this cobblers. MarkRylance
Always makes me think he was biting the hand that fed him very nicely for a long time. Ultimately who knows, and does it really matter? Just seems a bit ungracious to discuss it so often and publicly. No need.

That’s quite misleading. Rylance just wrote the forward to the book.
Rylance is a truly great actor and a truly terrible literary historian.
Simplistic searches on EEBO aren’t likely to identify authorship. “Shakespeare “ (Henry Neville) actively quoted his contemporaries either as a form of praise or scorn or inside joke. The plays are filled with these subtle references.
My tutor at university always maintained the same theory and that the Birthplace Trust was more preoccupied in maintaining the story for its benefits to tourism. The sheer volume of output suggests more than one writer, as do the endless mistakes in their recording!
He the realest
What a genius of an actor. We are lucky!
Has he actually read Bacon? His prolix prose is a world (Globe?) away from Shakespeare's.
pray tell, my good man, who is this Shakespeare?
