The first of the two The Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser were roughly based on the film of the same name from 1932—and a potential The Mummy 4 could return to this trend. Alongside classic films like Dracula and Frankenstein, the original Mummy movie helped establish a specific niche in horror. The 1999 remake added a lot more comedy and action to the already-established plot, and these combined factors attributed to its status as a cult classic.
Though The Mummy 4 may need to change the use of the Scroll of Thoth , it would be a neat nod to the original film if the ancient artifact played a role. Additionally, the Scroll of Thoth, named for the Egyptian god of mathematics and science, appears in many pieces of fiction outside of The Mummy movies, such as the Assasin's Creed video games, so it would be a fun and familiar addition.
In the original 1932 Mummy movie, Imhotep was even more sympathetic. He had fallen in love with Anck-su-namun, the pharaoh's daughter, but the two never conspired to kill him. Instead, the princess died of illness, and the devastated Imhotep's only crime was to try and resurrect her. Of course, as a walking mummy, Imhotep attempted to kill a woman to use her body to house Anck-su-namun's fully freed soul—so he wasn't blameless.
2 The Mummy 4 Can Bring Back The Reincarnation Plot In the original The Mummy, the resurrected Imhotep was lucky enough to come across Helen Grosvenor, a woman he quickly realized was the reincarnated form of Anck-su-namun. He granted her visions of her past life, and Helen became conflicted as she remembered loving Imhotep at a different time. Still, she recognized that she was now a different person.
