Dakile says working alongside a seasoned actor like Maake ka Ncube is a blessing as she was still new in the industry. They have been rehearsing together for the past month. “He [Maake ka Ncube] is a veteran actor who has been in the industry for a long time. In terms of theatre, he is extremely well versed. He is one of the most generous people that I have worked with. Theatre requires a collaborative effort and for one to be a team player.
“I got the call from my agent and I was excited. I know acting and stories are reflection to society. For me as a 29-year-old woman, it is important, and I care about what is happening and the future of my country and I want it to flourish.
“I carefully chose not to watch it so that I create the character of Mandisa my own way. I gave Mandisa a voice that comes from a truthful place. Watching the movie again would have caused me anxiety thinking about all the great actors who have portrayed the same role.”Dakile who left for New York when she was just 19 has been acting since she was 5. She knew from a young age that she belonged to the performing arts industry and there was no need for plan B.
