As someone who moved from Belfast in the 80s to Australia. Fuck yes its safe. One of the safest places in the world to live. Plenty of actual data to back this up. Instead of posting dumb question headlines.

Such a dreadful tragedy. I have to ask, was his a hate crime? Was this racism?

No not safe. Pity the media feel its their duty to report in gory detail every sinful act of violence. Media are part of the problem. Maybe they should change their world view a bit.

Why do women walk by themselves like this at night? Don’t put yourself in a position that makes you vunerable...wake up!!!!!!!

Australia should bring back the death penalty. In China for this crime and rightfully the murderer will be executed very fast, not kept in jail to be fed at the tax payer expense.

No Australia, Melbourne is not safe to walk

RIP 😢

It's as safe as what Israel makes it for the Palestinians

No Australia is not safe. Just ask Indigenous Australians. And all non-Indigenous Australians are implicated.

A student! What is wrong with these murderous men? It has to be a male. I couldn’t imagine a female doing this. It is beyond the imagination. Whoever did this dreadful crime has to know they will be found. Whoever you are, who killed this young woman, we are coming for you.

It's not safe for women.

Victoria is not safe. The law is weak and it side with the perpetrators.

Women shouldn’t assume they’ll be safe when travelling alone at night. They’re not so take care out there...

Australia is safe. There’s just thousands of dropkicks in Melbourne.

So terrible. Poor thing, my condolences to her family. I also hope that the evil scum that murdered her are caught and are brought to justice.

Horrible

I feel for the family of the victim and for the victim after going through the horrendous act. Let's stop the moral panic and accept that these things can happen in any country. Australia is safe but very unfortunate when things like this happens. RIP

Memories of Eurydice, on her way home from a comedy show. 💔 The suffering, for all concerned. Tragic losses that should never happen. Violence against women. When will it end?

So sorry your girl was murdered by this monster we all feel your pain RIP beautiful girl❤️❤️

It depends which part of Australia you are referring to. If you are referring to Victoria, anecdotal evidence is that it is less safe than what it used to be, but don't ask the Premier or Police Commissioner about this, they will stick their head in the sand & hope you go away.

A precious member of my family, an Iranian Baha’i refugee was attacked by a mob in a suburban park last weekend with his 3 year old daughter. He is traumatised. Never mind his babe.

Australia is clearly not a safe place for girls or women. When will this epidemic of domestic terrorism end

Who said it was safe?

No sir, Australia is not safe. Melbourne is not safe! So sorry for your loss!

But sure, NotAllMen.

Unfortunately this can happen pretty much anywhere in the world.

Australia is not safe anymore, they have imported the third world

No, Australia is not safe. In the 60+ years that I have been living here it hasn't been safe. Nowhere on this planet is safe. I don't know who asked the question, but it shows a naivety about people and an ignorance about Australia.

Rest In Peace Beautiful Girl 🙏🏻

May she rest in peace. I'd rather wait for the investigation before jumping to conclusions. But it is heart breaking to think that a young Palestinian woman, coming from the turbulent Middle East, would meet her demise here.

Heartbreaking :'-(

JaneCaro Personally I know of 3 kids in their 20s,one was kidnapped by 2 men just out of jail, one was stalked from work & choked on way home & one was mugged for money. All random acts. It can happen to anyone & it is the very dark side of our society. We need to look out for each other.

Potentially, it's not safe for any woman anywhere in the world, not where there are men present, 'cause there's no telling which one of them will kill you.

incredingo Pays to remember that 99.9% of men would have tried to help her. It’s not us and them. Nowhere is completely safe and this will happen again as it always has. The only person at fault is the perpetrator. Poor girl and her family.

Horrible!!! Rest in Peace darling. 🌷🙏

JaneCaro I can’t imagine her family’s pain. Just terrible.

Every day full of headlines of women being murdered, assaulted, tormented—so sick of it. It remains terrifying to be a female—our lives are spent looking over our shoulders, listening for approaching footsteps in the dark, being very careful with what we say and how we say it.

Its not safe if you are female. But saying Australia isnt safe....? You clearly haven't been keeping up with other countries issues like USA having mass shootings every second day. I would say Australia is very safe compared to other nations.

Maybe if you bothered to research the murder of women stats due to DV you'd know the answer to that question.

Another young woman stalked & murderded on her way home from a comedy gig?

Well, any county is not safe. Do not generalise.

Um no where isn’t safe not only Australia.

Any dopey bastard that says HANGING shouldn’t be bought back as a punishment and yes not a deterrent, I don’t care about deterring, I care about a punishment fitting the crime...A scum of the earth into a jail cell for life is not a punishment...DO YOU HEAR ME CIVIL LIBERTARIANS!

RIP beautiful soul... this is so tragic

The register of offenders will prevent this sort of thing happening because we will know where they live. Let's hope the Liberal party can get re-elected so our women and children can walk home safely.

Not for women its not. But we arent alone there.

I have never heard of any incidents like this happening in Israel. But they seem to occur in Australia. This is not a once off, anymore. Makes you wonder which country is safer for women. Australia or Israel? Israel I think.

So sick and tired of women being killed by men. Enough!

And we’re complaining about a damn toiletries ad. Our priorities are fucked. RIP.

Is anywhere really “safe” anymore

Correct. Australia is not safe for women

'Kindest girl': Young woman killed outside Bundoora shopping centre was Israeli studentA young woman killed outside a Bundoora shopping centre in Melbourne's north was Israeli student Aya Masarwe, who was believed to be on her way home from a comedy show when she was attacked. Palestinian student with Israeli citizenship. RIP Aya. Who's the guy with her... I'd be asking questions Very, very depressing. Such abhorent acts makes it shameful to belong to the same species as the person commiting this outrage. Each of such acts diminishes us as a civilised and decent society.
