New statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics show that maternal mortality rates have increased every year from 2018 to 2021.

Maternal death rates increased in 2021, according to information released Thursday by the National Center for Health Statistics.

The statistics show an increase from 23.8 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2020, to 32.9 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2021. The CDC noted that these mortality rates also increase with maternal age. The rate for women aged 40 and over was 6.8 times higher than the rate for women under 25.
