A major new study has found a direct tie between a warming world and intensifying droughts *and* rain events. Here's more on these new findings:

17 hours agoThere were four extreme water cycle events from 2015 to 2021, when the Earth experienced its seven hottest years on record.More monitoring like this could spur action to reduce the effects of climate change, a study author says.to get weekday updates from The Weather Channel and our meteorologists.

By looking at the sum of groundwater, soil moisture, lake and river water, and snow and ice — or "all the water stored on and in the land" — Rodell and the team discovered that there were four extreme water cycle events from 2015 to 2021, which happened to be the seven hottest years in the modern record. Between 2002 and 2014, there were only three major events per year.

The most intense event identified was an extreme rainfall event, or pluvial, that began in 2019 in central Africa and is still going. Lake Victoria, on the boundary of Kenya and Uganda, has risen by more than 3 feet because of the rain. The most intense dry event of the past two decades was a drought in Brazil in 2015 and 2016 that emptied reservoirs and led to water rationing in some cities.

The study also tested the correlations between global total intensity and other major climate indicators such as El Niño Southern Oscillation. Rodell said he's hopeful that continued development and adoption of renewable sources of energy and energy-efficient technologies will lead to a reversal in the current course of climate change.

Just curious. Who paid for this study. Results of studies almost always reflect the opinion of whoever provides the funding.

BS

Oh stop

It Snows Global Warming, It rains Global Warming, It’s a nice Sunny Dry Day Global Warming, just what the hell is the weather suppose to be that is not Global Warming

The Weather Channel is contractually obligated to traffic in climate fear porn.

River stones in Europe prove droughts have been cyclical for hundreds of years

Give me a break... What's wrong with you 'The Weather Channel'?

The only global warming that is real will be when God burns the earth with fire - trust that will be real

Increased record-breaking precipitation events under global warming - Climatic ChangeIn the last decade record-breaking rainfall events have occurred in many places around the world causing severe impacts to human society and the environment including agricultural losses and floodings. There is now medium confidence that human-induced greenhouse gases have contributed to changes in heavy precipitation events at the global scale. Here, we present the first analysis of record-breaking daily rainfall events using observational data. We show that over the last three decades the number of record-breaking events has significantly increased in the global mean. Globally, this increase has led to 12 % more record-breaking rainfall events over 1981–2010 compared to those expected in stationary time series. The number of record-breaking rainfall events peaked in 2010 with an estimated 26 % chance that a new rainfall record is due to long-term climate change. This increase in record-breaking rainfall is explained by a statistical model which accounts for the warming of air and associated increasing water holding capacity only. Our results suggest that whilst the number of rainfall record-breaking events can be related to natural multi-decadal variability over the period from 1901 to 1980, observed record-breaking rainfall events significantly increased afterwards consistent with rising temperatures.
