The Little Mermaidon March 12, providing an in-depth look at the world under the sea and garnering plenty of reactions from parents and their little ones.
The trailer opens with beautifully composed shots of the iconic shipwreck and Ariel’s heroic rescue of Prince Eric . Throughout the trailer parents also get their first real glimpse at Ursula, played by Melissa McCarthy, and King Triton who is portrayed by none other than Javier Bardem. Parents of little ones will be excited to hear that the trailer also features Ariel swimming through the ocean with her favorite animal sidekicks, including Flounder, the fish voiced by Jacob Tremplay, Scuttle the bird and Sebastian the crab . To close out the trailer, Ariel sings the iconicanthem as she swims through the ocean and rides off in a carriage with Prince Eric, hinting at the romance to come.
The new trailer gives a good idea of what to expect from the film, with incredibly realistic CGI animation and plenty of dark sea cave vibes, particularly from Ursula. Fans of the original 1989 animated version will appreciate the call-backs to the original, such as Flounder following Ariel, Sebastian’s desire to keep her from her rebellious ways, and the slightly clueless seagull who becomes Ariel’s ill-informed guide to all things human.
While the trailer might have only been a little over two minutes long, it has left fans eager to see the movie in full. As Ariel says in the trailer, “I just want to know more about them,” and fans feel the same way about the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
