The actress, who plays Dearbhla Dillon on the RTÉ soap opera, talks to her mum, who is based in Westmeath, at least once a day and she has picked up her strength and resilience.

Maria told RSVP Magazine: "We are very close and I always go to her for advice. We chat on the phone all the time, at least once a day! We can all get annoyed with our mammy at times, and Maria's is no different when it comes to Irish stereotypes and her best Irish mammy-isms.
