The maker of the Funko Pop! collectibles plans to toss more than $30 million worth of its inventory, after realizing it has more of its pop culture figurines than it can afford to hold on to.

Funko Pop Star Wars action figures line the shelves at Meltdown Comics and Collectibles in Los Angeles in 2015.Funko Pop Star Wars action figures line the shelves at Meltdown Comics and Collectibles in Los Angeles in 2015.The maker of the Funko Pop! collectibles plans to toss millions of dollars' worth of its inventory, after realizing it has more of its pop culture figurines than it can afford to hold on to.

The inventory has filled the company's warehouses to the brim, forcing Funko to rent storage containers to hold the excess product. And now, the product is worth less than it costs to keep on hand. "This includes inventory that the Company intends to eliminate in the first half of 2023 to reduce fulfillment costs by managing inventory levels to align with the operating capacity of our distribution center," Funko

I will buy them!!. Pls!!.

Just bust 'em up into tiny pieces and toss them into our food chain, as with every other piece of plastic we discard.

Fine, the Star Wars sequel trilogy wasn't all that popular. But surely these can be recycled somehow.

Maybe sell them just above cost and folks will but then, but I mean then they'd be selling for like $3 each

Like toss into landfills? FunkoPOP if you don’t send these to underserved communities for kids to play with, you are a garbage company.

I feel vindicated, now even funko is sending them to where I've always thought they belonged

Sold some puts in $fnko Lets go!

Stop buying toys made in China that could care less about the climate. America & Americans are being forced to live w/o oil & gas for this fake climate crisis but not the real climate disasters called China & India. Let’s make real progress & manufacture things in AMERICA 🇺🇸

They will end up buried out in the desert with all the E.T. Atari 2600 game cartridges.

This shits going to get dug up in 40yrs like they did the Atari dump

No talk of recycling?

MsDReadsTooMuch

Two for one sales?

Has the maker of Funko Pop! heard of Children's Hospitals? Does it know about tax credits?

Well, that ought to drive up the prices of the remaining 'collectibles.'

I’m reminded of this level of waste…

if you have to dump $30m worth of product then the product isn't worth $30m

Hopefully that trash is buried in a New Mexico landfill for safe keeping

Dear OriginalFunko Can you not donate these to homeless shelters or to kids in refugee camps around the world or kids that were impacted by the earthquakes in Turkey?

I hear ya, baby FunkoPOPsNews. It was painful for me to recycle letterpress-printed stationery product on 300 gsm 100% cotton rag, deckle-edged paper too.

xAR0Lx

I just never saw the appeal. They clearly take no real skill to design & produce, don’t look that good, look largely the same, and can’t really even be played with. I’ve rarely seen a more cynical example of pop culture merchandising.

Can I interest you in a plastic bin of Beanie Babies?

This is why you buy anime figures instead of supporting bad business practices that mass produce their plastic statues

End manufactured & engineered obsolescence. End excessive waste, child abuse labour & slave labour. It’s pathetic gaslighting & virtue signalling to push “home” recycling while multinational corporations use exploited minerals, dump toxins & waste shipping on garbage.

I know someone who would want them all epcot_adam

We live in capitalistic hell.

This place is a message. Pay attention! This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

Doesn’t sound like a sound business decision to me. Discount or donate rather than throw out.

They’re not collectible when they make one for every single thing that comes along.

Can you say... 'Beanie Babies'? 😂

Companies like this should be required to pay a “cost to society“ tax. I remember thinking this in the mid-70s when I first started to understand as a youngster how harmful capitalism could be.

All the collectors have run out of shelf space. This is the end for funko pops

Careful…Republicans might see this as an opportunity to increase their voter rolls.

environmental disaster

when there is a recession people stop buying useless crap

My friend Chris predicted this two years ago, and I have thought about his tweet literally every time I've seen a Funko Pop since.

They aren’t toys, you can’t even play with them. And I think they are ugly to boot.

Twiztid and ICP collectors are going wild right now...

All that MGK stuff has to go somewhere

Funko my life!!!!

Lmao plastic toys y'all.

It’s this era’s Beanie Babies

Beanie babies 2.0. They knew

I mean, there are a lot of Children’s Hospitals they could donate to…

Because it’s a tax write-off, instead of giving toys to children, Funko has chosen to dump excess stock in order to appease their shareholders. When will this country wake up and recognize the real enemy, is Wallstreet.

It's not a collectible when you make a bazillion of them. Then it's a commodity. And Funko futures are trending down. The genuine collectible versions, mainly those that are signed by their real-world counterparts, may still be collectible.

OriginalFunko if you just dump all of this plastic, you will never deserve anybody's business ever again.

Noooo

With all of the innumerable things to spend money on, it’s baffling they did as well as they did.

more overvalued worthless crap that will end up in a landfill somewhere instead of going to children who could use them

Don’t worry; they’re all Jar Jar Binks

OriginalFunko could toss some of it my way.

Donate them wtf

With millions of disadvantaged kids in the US, trashing them is really the best they could come up with?

Landfill either way.

Couldn’t they donate them to children’s charities?

Have they ever heard of eBay?

I hope this means my Chano Amenguale Funko figure from the TV show Barney Miller has gone up in value.

Funko Pops! are made from vinyl chloride… so is this cloud over Ohio

Donate this to children’s hospitals & women’s shelters. ThatKevinSmith The_SecretStash

Does this mean we can finally acknowledge that eco-consumerism is not the f*cking answer and it doesn’t matter what we buy in this capitalistic hell hole of a market because the production far outweighs the demand and it’s all going to waste anyways?

If they don’t send u all them funko pops rn 😤 xavierlovesfood

C'mon! we have already killed so many businesses. What is one more?.

Open the warehouse and charge $20 for “all you can carry”

I have some Garbage Pail Kids cards I’m trying to unload. Any takers?

OriginalFunko why are you creating unnecessary waste? There’s millions of kids who will never have toys because they’re poor. I will never buy anything from you all again.

So it's a tax write off.

ahh capitalism. overproducing and then throwing away like its a career choice. this is end stage kids... if we arent all thinking it... we are benefiting from it and do not care.

“.. 99% of Funkos are worthless…May our future ancestors, or the aliens excavating our civilization sometime in the distant future, forgive us…” how about sending them to organizations that recycle plastic waste? donate them to schools? Funko to Futurama

I will take some since you're giving them for free like that

Why dump though? DONATE them.

When I worked at a bookstore that sold Funko Pop, I enjoyed asking enthusiasts, purchasing the latest release or limited edition, what they did with them. Many said they had an entire wall of shelves to display them.

Or, they are worth zero in the first place instead of $30M.

I’ll take as many of them as they are willing to ship to me.

🤣🤣🤣

You can just give them to kids around the world instead of this BS OriginalFunko.

Seems fishy

Always thought they were ugly. Never owned a single one.

Abber_naffy heard about this?

How disgusting of Funkos. Maybe they could donate them to children's hospitals and orphanages. Would sure beat throwing them away.

Manufactured collectibles are not collectible.

Bobbleheads are trash from the jump

Bullish Waste management👀👀 $wm

BiochemMU2015 probably wants all of them. 😂

Uhhhh what?

Funkos rule

Donate them to children’s hospitals or some children’s charities! Just not in a landfill. FunkoPOPsNews OriginalFunko Recycle

Ouuuh. I should totally grab a bunch of them now. With luck they may actually be worth something.... In about 100 years. 💀

Can't they recycle them?

Lol

Attn the_trashwalker. We need to convince OriginalFunko to donate, not throw away.

How about “dumping” them into children’s hospitals, homeless shelters, and other such organizations?

You know, I don't own any Funko Pops. I'm just sayin', you can just send a few my way, just sayin'. ;)

rip

Maybe sell em to the dollar tree idk.

icillian10 go find that dumpster 😂

JustCapitalismThings

That is a tragic waste to just throw it away FunkoPOPsNews Another example of American & corporations treating the earth like it is disposable & a depository for excess consumer junk

As a reseller, I agree. You can't give these things away. They don't sell for very much and I always see tons of them at the thrift stores.

Any idea where they are being disposed of? I’m asking for a friend…

They need to destroy them to keep collectors buying. Collectors won’t be buying anything if everyone can get it.

Donate it

Another environmental disaster involving plastic. We never learn.

Solid collection investment 😂

That’s what happens when you flood a market.

Donate? That's a lot of plastic

Capitalism breeds waste

Make designs people like, and maybe they would buy them

OriginalFunko should do sales and giveaways Make it fun. Not wasteful

When you use the word “worth” that way I am suddenly reminded of cryptocurrency

Donate them

They write off a plastic landfill BOOOOOOOO

More plastic that will find its way to the ocean. Sad

Garbage..see these all the time at thrift stores and yard sales.

Total waste. They can’t send those to kids somewhere? Wtf are those?

OriginalFunko donate to ToysForTots_USA or MakeAWish or similar.

I’m old enough to remember beanie babies.

That market is hella saturated

They can donate it in 3rd world countries there are still kids in the world who can’t afford toys

Strange, unnecessary.

Where!?

There are plenty of children’s hospitals that they could donate these to.🏥

Capitalism gone mad.

Destroy them? Why don't they just put them on clearance, or is that what that means?

Garbage manufacturing company

👀 it’s gonna be like the ET graveyard all over again

is this like 1983 ET Atari buried in New Mexico?

... why not donate them? There's plenty of kids that would e enjoy them.

They're not really 'worth' $30million, are they? Maybe 'priced at' would be a more accurate description?

Why not donate them?

Sort of calls into question the '$30 million' valuation.

r/AntiConsumption

Good to know that at some point in my life there will be Funko Pop microplastics in my blood.

nerds are killing the environment

Now if we could just get the collectors of Funko Pops to realize the same thing.

They're Dumping $30 Million of Funko Pops Directly Into a LandfillThe company behind Funko Pop! collectibles, vastly over-estimated demand and is dumping $30 million worth of figurines in a landfill, Kotaku reports. OriginalFunko could donate these items to a local Comic/Hobby Store, but to do away with them like this is stupid. They make some cool stuff but not everything needs to be made into a fucking pop figure.
