Aubrey Plaza is starring in the new spy movie Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which has curiously not been well-promoted despite its outstanding cast. Since starring in the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, Aubrey Plaza has become a beloved Hollywood figure for her dark deadpan humor and on-screen charisma.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY From the director of The Gentlemen and Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune reunites the filmmaker Guy Ritchie with actor Jason Statham for a spy action comedy. The movie follows spy Orson Fortune as he reluctantly teams up with accomplished world operatives and the biggest Hollywood movie star to stop a billionaire’s sale of deadly weapons technology. Plaza portrays Sarah Fidel, a snarky tech genius instrumental to Fortune’s operation.

Considering Operation Fortune was originally scheduled to be released in January 2022, the spy comedy has seemingly been forgotten by the studio after being delayed by a year. The marketing strategy may have also changed based on real-world events since its initial release date, as March 2023's Operation Fortune begins with Ukrainian mobsters stealing a weapons device. The war in Ukraine likely impacted how Operation Fortune dealt with sensitively promoting the characters in the film.

Operation Fortune Reviews Prove Plaza Needs Her Own Spy Series While Operation Fortune has received mixed reviews from critics, holding a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the cast has been largely praised – particularly Aubrey Plaza, Hugh Grant, and frequent action franchise star Jason Statham.

Plaza has already led more serious crime thrillers, so a comedy film or TV series centered around her as a spy with snarky line readings could be a hit. Given the current popularity of Aubrey Plaza and Jenna Ortega and the increased interest in placing them in a project together, a dark spy comedy would be an interesting way to pair the actresses and utilize their similar skills in action and humor.
