The Mummy franchise has been at a standstill for years, but a story Evelyn O'Connell once told about her history could be the key to changing this.

The Mummy movies may have already set up the perfect premise for a prequel, all thanks to Evelyn O'Connel's family history. The Mummy franchise, which saw massive success with its first two films, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, has struggled to regain traction with subsequent sequels and reboots. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a notorious flop, and the 2017 The Mummy movie starring Tom Cruise completely missed the flavor of the original movies.

For this reason, the Mummy franchise might be wise to circle back around to this story as a prequel film. It would allow fans to understand Evelyn's adventurous spirit better than they ever had before. Additionally, King Tutankhamun is one of the most famous mummy discoveries of all time. Including such a prominent historical figure in a campy action franchise like The Mummy may be enough to reel audiences back in.
