Ken Bruce says early Radio 2 exit 'seems a shame'

Entertainment reporter

The Scottish presenter, 72, is leaving the station to host a new show on commercial station Greatest Hits Radio. "Gardening leave is a known concept in broadcasting, and in many other areas," he told Today's Garry Richardson. "But you just adapt your timetable, and instead of three weeks, it's one week, and that's fine."

The BBC said: "Ken decided to leave Radio 2 and it's always been known he's leaving in March. Returning to Wogan House [the station's headquarters] for a week after a month of broadcasting the Piano Room sessions at Maida Vale provided a natural break. We wish Ken all the best for the future."and ITV's All Star Family Fortunes, as well as programmes on BBC Radio 1 and Radio X.

For us all... yes

he wouldn't be whinging about the 17 days if he worked down a mine. celebrity whinging when our people are facing such turbulent times.

RealKenBruce His fans will follow him, the BBC will lose thousands of listeners and to be honest, they deserve it after the recent treatment of Ken.

Absolute 80s without the ads is much better.

Time to switch off BBC radio now. BBC TV and radio rapidly becoming irrelevant. I’ll miss KB and will more than likely switch to his new station.

Ken is well out of the shambles BBCRadio2 has become.

All the best to Ken. I hope your move is fruitful and enjoyable.

Unfortunately he’s overstayed his welcome and should have moved on years ago. He’s good at what he does but the mid-morning slot just needs to be more current and a 72 year old is never going to make that happen.

Sad to see you go Ken, but take Scott Mills with you.

Radio 2 has become less relevant to me over recent years, due mainly to the percentage of new music. Having decided to dispose of Steve Wright, Ken Bruce et al, it is no longer my radio station of choice. Can't feel sorry for the old DJs as their earnings easily compensate.

Better off out of the cesspit that is the BBC now anyway. I would love him to go out with a bang. Lay in to it in a final flurry and also dish it out to JeremyVineOn5 as well. Would be a fitting end but fear he's just too polite & nice to do it but live in hope. 🤞🏻

Well I'm not a fan if Ken I'm afraid so wont miss him but won't be listening to Vernon either. Gary Davies should have taken Ken Bruce's place.

Ken Bruce is great, radio 2 will have lost me as a listener for sure, Vernon Kay is dreadful.

own goal by the BBC

A victim of the BBCs crusade to remove the old and bring in new diverse presenters. It’s a pity that the demographic who actually listen to BBC radio happen to like those presenters that are being removed.

Didn't he quit?

BBCRadio2 boss’s are a disgrace. Absolutely no reason to dump him in the first place never mind throw him out the door early.

Well if Greatest Hits Radio hadn’t started a marketing trumpeting his arrival before the ink had dried on the contract this wouldn’t have happened?

That is a shame BBC should keep cameras is one of the best DJ's.

shouldn't have shamefully plugged his new station/show then if he really wanted to see out his stint at the BBC.... he knew what he was doing... so disingenuous of him...

As a relatively new listener to Radio 2 this is a great loss. The man is a radio master, boy has elite level skills. He’s right, it is a shame.

Ken, you jacked it in. Maybe if you wanted to avoid this situation you could have not done that?

Will miss you Ken
