The new Alien movie from Disney’s 20th Century Studios has added Transformers: The Last Knight star Isabela Merced to its cast in the upcoming film’s latest update. Currently being developed under the working title of Alien: Romulus, this newest installment in the long-running science fiction franchise is set to be directed by Fede Álvarez, the filmmaker behind 2013’s Evil Dead remake.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY A new report from Deadline reveals that Merced has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Details surrounding Álvarez’s film are scant, though it is expected that the iconic alien creatures referred to as Xenomorphs will continue to feature heavily in the latest outing. Previous reports also suggest that this new Alien movie will follow in the footsteps of last year’s Predator prequel Prey, and is similarly slated for an exclusive release on Hulu.
Following the 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, however, these original plans seemed to have stalled in development. Instead, Disney decided to pursue a fresh take on the property with Álvarez pitching a new story reportedly involving completely original characters. It has also been suggested that this new entry will not be connected with any of the franchise’s previous films and will serve as a soft reboot for the property.
In addition to Álvarez’s film, Disney also has plans to bring the franchise into the world of streaming television. A prequel series led by Fargo creator Noah Hawley is also currently in development and is expected to focus on the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which features heavily in the original films. Filming on the series is also anticipated to begin sometime this year. It seems that audiences can expect to see plenty more Alien reaching their screens in the very near future.
My heart sank lower and lower with every word of this tweet
There are movies that should not be made anymore because Hollywood isn’t capable of making gritty, truly suspenseful stories anymore. None of todays movie capture the cinematography, sets, and pace of films from what we can now look as the greatest era in cinema 80s & 90s.
