The Canadian actor discusses his new travel series, the joys of The White Lotus and a possible Schitt’s Creek sequel

Once or twice in a career a dream commission comes in, such as being offered a hosting gig on a TV travelogue, exploring the world’s greatest hotels. For the Canadian actor Eugene Levy, it was a no-brainer: absolutely not. “I’m not curious, and I’m not an adventurous type of person,” he tellsNot that it mattered: the producers at Apple TV+ thought his reticence was a charm, and simply changed the format slightly, resulting in.

Was this all a double bluff - do you actually love travelling but said you didn’t to stay in a bunch of five-star digs? I just knew to be honest, and to be myself on camera, they had the wrong person. I would almost have to pretend to be someone else, so I said I’m not the person for it. So we had a conversation and I was explaining why and I was getting laughs on the other end and I’m thinking this is a good call, I’m getting my point across, and after, the Apple TV+ exec and producer contacted each other and said, “That’s the show! That’s what gives the show the added personality.

Yes, that was sprung on me. I did say no [at first]. They said: “Oh, you’re going to be helping the veterinarian with their medical exam on the elephant.” I thought, OK, I’m going to hand somebody a syringe or something but when they said: “We’d like you to get a stool sample”, I said “No, I don’t think I can do that.” And from off-camera I heard my co-producer say: “Oh, I think you can!” and I thought “OK, well it’s the show.” So I did it. It’s certainly not something I’d want to do again.
