A former influencer and “mummy blogger” is facing a midwifery misconduct hearing after being accused of making “racially offensive” comments on a gossip forum using a pseudonym.
Giving evidence at the Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing on Thursday, Ms Hooper admitted to three of the charges levelled against her, including that she was behind the “inappropriate” comments and that the comments were intended to “undermine or humiliate” their subject. One of the posts discussed during the hearing regards comments made anonymously by Ms Hooper about authorThe post said: “Candice is often really aggressive and always brings it back to race, privilege and class because she knows no one will argue with that. It feels like a weapon to silence people’s opinions.”
When asked whether the posts about Ms Brathwaite were motivated by race, Ms Hooper said: “I didn’t intend them to be because I didn’t realise at the time that microaggresion or trope was racially offensive.”
