Jurassic Park was payment for another movie.

Jurassic Park is one of the most popular movies ever made by director Steven Spielberg, but the movie and Spielberg's career would have been ruined if it weren't for an unlikely WW2 movie. Steven Spielberg is one of the most successful and highly-acclaimed directors of all time, with the creative visionary being behind some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Jurassic Park tells the iconic story of a theme park that has brought dinosaurs back to life - but when the dinosaurs break loose from their enclosures, chaos ensues. Jurassic Park has been a constant presence in pop culture since it's initial release in 1993, with new movies being released all the way up to 2022's box-office success Jurassic World Dominion.

At the time, MCA owned Universal Pictures, meaning that Spielberg had to go through Sheinberg. Sheinberg was fine with green lighting Schindler's List on one condition: that Steven Spielberg direct Jurassic Park first. Jurassic Park was obviously more marketable than an R-rated film about the Holocaust, and since Schindler's List was his passion project, Spielberg took the deal.

Spielberg's Passion For Schindler's List Influenced Jurrasic Park's Production Interestingly, Steven Spielberg's passion for Schindler's List was so great that it affected the production of Jurassic Park. As soon as filming on Jurassic Park was finished, Spielberg relocated to Poland and immediately began work on Schindler's List.

Jurassic Park and Schindler's List were so close together that they were released less than a year apart from each other, with Jurassic Park releasing in June 1993 and Schindler's List getting its wide release in February 1994. Jurassic Park's theatrical run lasted for over a year, meaning that for a short while Spielberg had two of his films in theaters at the same time.
