The legacy of Brazilian Carnival founder Robson Silva will live on this year in the annual Brisbane event celebrating that nation’s culture.
But Silva’s death last year gave rise to questions about whether the carnival would continue without him. However, his close friend, Victor Bakker, put any doubts to rest. “He always wanted the event to be family friendly, so we decided this year we will split entertainment in two different sessions for the grown-ups to have fun in the evening with bars opening.”Food stalls will showcase the best Brazilian food, a parrot will be present, and various dance and workshops will be on offer, including samba and forro performances and capoeira martial arts, with dress-ups welcome.
“Last year the guy who won was dressed as Noah’s Ark, with all the animals, and he even had a lady inside the boat – it was so random, but it was great.”
