In his first major Canadian show, Mike Bourscheid premieres Agnes, “a contemporary, auto-fictional video tale” according to the Vancouver/Luxembourg-based artist. Inspired by Bourscheid’s relationship with his single mother and experience of an absent father, Agnes is comprised of shots of the artist within the original installation/film set at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, where Sunny Side Up was first shown in 2021.
Codes of Silence, the first exhibition curated by recently appointed RAG curator Zoë Chan, showcases videos by Shirley Bruno, Aleesa Cohene, Caroline Monnet and Cauleen Smith. The collection “asks what kinds of creative expression can take place when the voice does not have to shout in the streets or have to fight back,” Chan says. “These artists are making videos that represent subtle modes of communication beyond public protest and dissent.
