Seeing queer representation and romance on television in an authentic way is something she said she wishes she could have seen on screen as a young woman. Renner, a nonbinary lesbian, told ABC News that showrunners reached out to her initially to explain the show's diversity goals, with which she was immediately on board. "I was like, 'Yes!' Like, I have been waiting for this moment to see something like this on television," she said.
Reality TV has also been critiqued for failing to create space for people of marginalized groups to thrive. "Love Trip: Paris" executive producer Susan House said that this was one of the showrunners' main priorities.
Criticized by...who exactly? That's right, nobody. Nobody in their right mind watches reality TV for the social justice aspect.

I really dont think the phrase 'lack of diversity' can ever be used again with any real meaning. There isnt a tv show on today that doesnt have a gay person,(usually portrayed as the smartest character), and I havent seen a commercial w/o an interracial couple in years.
Barriers?...nope...given into pressure?...yes! The oppressed once given a voice will eventually force program directors to include them in their programing when their voice is loud enough to pull advertising dollars! Plain & simple. No matter who fought to give them that voice!
