Fellow Newfoundland actor and writer Mark Critch, who starred alongside Pinsent in “The Grand Seduction,” considered him a mentor and a close friend who, even at age 92, died too young.
“I saw him just a few weeks ago,” Critch told SaltWire Network. “He was still talking of the work yet to be done. We were robbed because he died too young. “Gordon cut the path we all walked as artists to the mainland. He went to Canada as an immigrant, and he never stopped looking over his shoulder to see if you needed a hand along the way. Whenever I needed him to act with me, he was there. If I wanted advice, he gave it. He was a great mentor. He was the Codfather. But he was always Porky Pinsent from Grand Falls. That was his nickname when he was just a kid who loved the picture shows and dreamed of being in them.
