Engelman says the residences can be certified as mobile homes and don’t need a conventional foundation to be installed on a site. There are a variety of ways to create a foundation to set the structure on, but Engelman says they’ve commonly done steel screw piles, which is putting a screw into the ground and then setting the units on top. As this method is durable, it could also work as a permanent foundation.

Honomobo has placed these homes in a variety of locations as ADUs in California and as carriage houses in the Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast, Whistler and Squamish.
