The It franchise is one of the most successful film series in years, with the first film earning $701.8 million at the box office. While the sequel, Chapter 2, earned $473.1 million, so it’s no surprise they’ve opted for a third installment to the franchise, this time in the form of a TV series, set before the first film.
But what was a surprise, at least for Irish fans, was the show’s title. As the new show will be called Welcome To Derry. Now the film series is set in the city of Derry, in Maine, USA…but that didn’t stop Irish fans from joking about the killer clown running around the Oak Leaf City. In particular, fans couldn’t help but joke that the series must be a crossover with hit comedy series Derry Girls.
The films follow a killer clown, Pennywise, who live in a sewage drain, and lures his victims there to murder them, with fans guessing how their favourite Derry Girls’ characters would react to the creepy clown online.Re-tweeting an announce for Welcome To Derry, she wrote: “You’re outdoing yourselves in the replies lads,” and she has a point.“I mean it’s a concern… but so’s the fact that I’ve nothin’ in for me Sunday dinner.
