Queensland will become the first Australian state to introduce pill testing at music festivals in an effort to reduce the risk of taking drugs and change user behaviour. 9News

The Queensland government will develop protocols based on Canberra's trials and fixed site."We don't want people ending up in our emergency departments or worse losing their life," D'Ath said."Pill testing services will inform people what chemical substances are in their drugs. She said testing was more likely to lead a person to dispose of their substances, decrease their intake, or tell their peers or seek help.

"The other benefit to pill testing is it provides critical information to law enforcement and health services about high-risk substances in the community or drug trends."The testing will not take away from police powers related to drug possession, supply and trafficking. Queensland Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies CEO Rebecca Lang said it was an effective way to reduce the potential for drug-related harm.

"Drug checking services have been available in Europe for over 20 years and have contributed to significant reductions in drug-related harms, particularly harms related to adulterated drug supply or high purity drugs," Lang said.

The move is backed by evidence-based research and has the support of key stakeholders and government agencies.Continue reading

So now it's ok to take drugs at festivals.. awesome 👌

Good to see. Next let's see recreational cannabis use to give much needed relief to our police, courts, hospitals, ambulance, night club security, economy etc the benefits of having it legalised far out weight having it illegal. Even a small amount of intelligence would suggest.

So once again as a society, we send the message that it is ok to break the law and not take responsibility and consequences for your own actions. No wonder we have a problem with youth discipline. Give me strength.

How about confiscating any & all drugs from any event.Regardless of what type of drug it is, they all alter the state of mind & behaviour of those who ingest them. This is where the problem lies in addition to the very obvious health issues. Plus the most obvious they are ILLEGAL.

NSW Police enjoy illegally strip searching underage children and then falsifying the paperwork, they enjoy touching the children without adult supervision and causing trauma.

Camberra?

The Greens are gonna be pissed

Great what about the teens committing murder and car theft on the back burner again

All it does is 'promote' drug taking. Making sure the drugs they take are 'safe'? It defeats the purpose...go figure....we live in a crazy, stupid world

Cool, can you test my car so I can break the speed limit safety.

You can't have it both ways either legalize drugs or act on the law.

About time well done ✅

Their Queenslanders no need to test we know they are pure Dopes. Testing illegal drugs with our tax dollars for dumb shits.

If people are willing to put something they have no idea what it was made from in their mouths then let them. Give them a Darwin award and move on.

As we slip further and further into degeneracy. This country is a joke and we deserve to be invaded by this stage.

So drug possession is no longer a crime.. who knew🤔

Great idea, bringing safety into the equation can bring some users to their senses. Never a bad thing.
