Ben Stiller has insisted he would make 'no apology' over the use of blackface in his controversial film Tropic Thunder, starring Robert Downey Jr

Stiller's 2008 film, about a group of Hollywood stars making a Vietnam War movie that becomes all too real, stars Downey Jr as A-lister and method actor Kirk Lazarus, a white man.

The move sparked some controversy at the time of the film's release, which has periodically resurfaced in the 15 years since. But Downey Jr was even nominated for an Oscar for his performance.Ben Stiller directed and starred in the film. But director Stiller has never publicly apologised and this week said he was still proud of it, despite some reports he had said sorry."It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it.

"I think having a moral psychology is job one. Sometimes, you just gotta go, ‘Yeah I effed up.’ In my defense, ‘Tropic Thunder’ is about how wrong [blackface] is, so I take exception."

Not controversial in the slightest. Anyone who has seen the film will know that it ridicules pretentiousness within the acting community and as far as race goes, the film has a black character point out how racist this is straight to Downey Juniors face! Great character work!!!

His characterisation of the retard simple Jack seemed more likely to provoke people but alas it didn't

Brilliant film Couldn't make it now But then again the only safe thing to make these days apart from Bullets and Rockets for Ukraine is vanilla ice cream. And even that's gonna offend some wet wipe somewhere.

Because he’s just a dude playing a dude playing another dude

Oh but it's perfectly fine for the Wayans brothers, Eddie Murphy, and Lenny Henry to 'White Up' with no problems.

It's called acting.......

Why should he its comedy.

What's wrong with it

More importantly why are you making a story out of a tweet? What is your agenda?

Good it's amazing!

BenStiller - Respect!

If you've seen tropic thunder, you'll know that the use of blackface was addressed in the film. If anything, it highlighted the problem with it more than anything.

Neither should he. What is going on in the world!

To be fair. He played a character playing blackface. Its more of an acknowledgement of how ridiculous blacface is. Blackface is also awful. Black face is wrong. taking the piss out of blackface actors is a different kettle of fish.

Surely the use of ‘blackface’ was actually addressed in the movie as part of the movie itself. This is not remotely on a par with Baddiel and Jason Lee.

He should apologise for Starsky and Hutch first that hurt humanity more

It's the entire fucking point of the character ffs 😂

Quite right

Good, because there’s nothing wrong with it!

'never go full retard'

No reason to! 😶

Ofcourse he doesn’t. That was the whole bit.
