The return, announced Wednesday by Broadway in Chicago, will come just under four years after the show closed its phenomenally successful Chicago “sit-down” production of 3½ years, its first outside of New York City and a major boon for the city at the time.Based on Ron Chernow’s biography of the Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, “Hamilton” first opened in Chicago in Sept. 2016 and closed here Jan.
This time, the national touring cast of “Hamilton” , will be at the James M. Nederlander Theatre , a larger venue with 2,253 seats as compared with the 1,800 seats at the CIBC Theatre, its original Chicago home. The Nederlander also is prized by producers for offering more premium seats. How long the show will stay for this reprise engagement, which was expected and begins Sept. 13, has not been announced. But “Hamilton” has announced a booking beginning Jan.
The level of demand for the show will be a strong indicator of the strength of the entertainment market in the recovering Loop. If demand matches previous levels and some 18,000 people a week head to Chicago’s business district, the impact on restaurants and retail likely will be significant.
I'm willing to wait for it!
