The damage has been blamed as 'the consequence of cuts' by unions.

A Glasgow resident and union worker has hit out after an iconic city building was left with boarded-up windows.

Sean Baillie, who works for GMB union, shared the image on social media and stated unions would be meeting this week in the wake of the planned cuts to city resources. The Glasgow City Council budget last week confirmed that the Mitchell Library's opening hours would be reduced as one of several cost-cutting measures implemented by the local authority.

“The city is experiencing a growing health and social well-being crisis, one you cannot cut your way out of. “£500m has been taken from the city’s budget in the past 10 years and it shows. Trade Unions are drawing up plans not only to resist these cuts but to win back the millions taken from our libraries, our services and our communities.”
