Francois Cluzet played the part in the extremely beautiful original French version of this film and he is able bodied.

Sam Jackson's on the lam

Its about time... i was already pissed off when he played a man who has cancer.... Does he enjoy taking roles away from people who are actually disabled or have a disease?

It’s called acting!

Ah a leftist sick of the left when they challenge his career

Ya mean the Titanic wasn’t actually a real time recording of what happened?

OUTRAGEOUS! He isn't disabled! further on this note I don't believe Hugh Jackman is Canadian! And when are we going to get rid of HamillHimself I don't think he can move stuff with his mind right? It's almost as if the job of an actor is to play a character. Damn you society

Name one disabled person who could play the role and possibly bring in the viewers.

Enough of this ableistplaining!

Correct me if I’m wrong but Isn’t acting pretending to be somebody else?

The fuckery of the politically correct brigade is astounding. Has no one ever told them that a job of an actor is to ***drumroll*** ACT

Kevin hart isnt a real nurse!

Hang on, isn’t he an actor that was .....acting?

Breaking news.. An actor acts. Gtfo 'ere sky news

Going to be interesting who starts auditioning for rapist roles

That's the point of acting. That's it. STOP.

It’s acting!!!! Just because the character is disabled doesn’t mean the actor playing the role must be. In the same way if you’re playing a bad guy you need to be a bad person. Which simply isn’t true. What would gangster films look like.?

What? He’s not really disabled and had to act that way?! Next you’ll tell me he wasn’t a real Meth dealer!

It's an actor role there's nothing to it

He’s a actor ffs . The aliens are laughing at us because this can’t be humans spouting such utter crap. How many hundreds of thousands of roles in film and tv are played by someone playing a different character to themselves isn’t that what acting is 😳

I think the responses to this article prove its not news

He must be a nazi quick destroy his life

And remake of Intouchables. Great movie please see if before this version. Thanks

Having a disability myself ( I use a special walking frame not a chair) I would find it insulting if I was chosen for a job just because of my disability and not because I was the most qualified person in the field These days people look for offence just for the sake of it

You mean, he’s not actually a science teacher either?

Actor,..... To portray someone else.....

Chris Hemsworth defends playing mythological Norse deity in the MCU despite not owning a magical hammer or being 1,600 years old.

‘I pretend to be people I’m not. And the lines? They’re all written down beforehand. I just learn them. And the plot lines? All made up! It’s called acting. And it’s wild’.

In a few weeks I’ll be playing someone with savantsyndrome. I don’t have it but my performance will make you believe I do. It’s called acting. Ask eddiemarsan if he has Parkinsonsdisease in SHO_RayDonovan. His answer will be the same as mine.

Love Bryan Cranston ❤️

Pleeeze. It's called ACTING!!!!!!

What’s next is Tom Hanks going to apologise for playing Forest? Outrage culture poisoning everything.

And, in his previous role he was a crack cooking chemistry teacher, which hes obviously NOT! This man needs to be terminated hes such a fraud!

I recently found out it was humans that were playing the Na'vi in Avatar, it's a disgrace. jobsforaliens

He isn't a drug dealing teacher with a terminal illness, so why did they cast him in breaking bad..... Yet another nonsense faux outrage by the 'I'm offended' brigade which is destroying society. Why should actors have to apologise for taking a job?

There’s probably a joke in there about him having to stand up for himself haha

Slow news day?

Why do we need a remake. It was great in French and anything with Kevin Hart will not be good and now not good for box office

understood... but what then is acting? what is the role of the actor? where are the (dividing) lines?

These stories make me wonder if some people literally think like IanMcKellen's character from Extras rickygervais

You mean he was only ACTING? Who does he think he is? A professional actor?

Does anyone know what 'acting' is anymore?

As a disabled person myself, I'm tired of this whole PC thing of 'non-disabled people shouldn't play disabled people'. A job should go to someone based on their ability to do the job - he clearly was the best person to play that character based on his acting ability.

Fake news!

Acting is story telling, playing characters pretending to be someone you are not, Are we really going to allow society to dictate which characters you can pretend to be and those that you cannot? Totalitarian Dictatorship

Did Anthony Hopkins defend playing a serial killer?

Who does Bryan Cranston think is he is?! I mean pretending to be someone else to make a living. I thought I'd seen it all.

I can't even believe he must defend this.

Like Edward Norton in The Score (2001)! Oh no he was acting as “acting” as disabled! The horror!!!! getagrip

Why does he have to defend this? Who the actual fuck is offended about this? Did Daniel Day Lewis have to apologise for playing Christy Brown? Did Neil Patrick Harris have to apologise for playing a straight character? It's called acting four Christ sake give me a fuckin break!

Why does he need to defend it in the first place? World gone mad...

I don’t believe andyserkis is an actual Ape, don’t tell anyone.

It’s called ‘acting’ ffs

He’ll always be Heisenberg to me. MrWhite

Actors now have to defend acting? PCGoneMad

Those that have a problem with an actor acting are very stupid.

It's ACTING. Gays play straights, straights play gays etc etc. It's make believe

Imagine having to defend pretending to be other people when you're an actor.

Poor guy hasn’t got a leg to stand on

The Upside review: This crude comedy is superficial in its treatment of race, disability and classAn ill-advised American remake of a French movie, this odd couple comedy fails to translate despite likeable performances from Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart Well Kevin Hart is homophobic and Cranston is a radical leftist so.... It’s a comedy. Get a grip. It’s a film

Trevor Noah makes an important point about able-bodied privilege in HollywoodComedian and host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, addressed the debate surrounding the casting of Bryan Cranston in the role of a disabled man in new movie The Upside. The internet was filled with Did Trevor Noah, a guy who was middling at best when he was in the UK, get his job on merit or was he elevated by his immutable characteristics ? It's the latter, the guy was the lowlight of every set and panel he participated in and managed to replace John Stewart. Privilege ?
