Kim Petras, a German singer based in the USA, became the first transgender woman to win the Grammy Award for best pop duo and group performance. She won best duet together with singer Sam Smith for the song, "Unholy."
Petras gave the acceptance speech, saying Sam let her speak for this milestone win. Petras thanked her mother. "I grew up next to a highway in nowhere Germany, and my mother believed me that I was a girl. And I wouldn't be here without her," she said."I don't think I could be here without Madonna," Petras said.
Petras and Smith won over the other nominees, namely Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran , Coldplay and BTS , Post Malone and Doja Cat ”), and ABBA .Petras’ latest album, "Turn Off the Light," was released in 2019.
