Lead actress Danielle Deadwyler famously missed out on the nomination many experts predicted she'd receive for her starring role as Mamie Till-Mobley in the film about her quest for justice in the wake of the murder of her son Emmett Till.

“I am forever in gratitude for the greatest lesson of my life – regardless of any challenges or obstacles, I will always have the power to cultivate my own joy, and it is this joy that will continue to be one of my greatest forms of resistance,” Chukwu wrote.

I should've called out my school for being racist all those years that i didn't win at art competitions, sports day, singing competitions...the list goes on

Angela Bassett says hi. Also, I guess let’s just completely disregard the groundbreaking nominations for Asian actors this year?

so, the full context of that quote is this: “We live in a world and work in industries that are so aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating an unabashed misogyny towards Black women.' if you want to argue THAT, you're probably just a racist.

this is how they try bully themselves into awards by kicking up a fuss when they dont get what they want. many black actresses have been nommed & won so she makes no damn sense. does she thing this actress was better than all the others? looks like a typical stereotype black role

This isn't the participation awards. You need to exhibit levels of greatness in order to be nominated. Work harder at your craft.

This sort of thing is pissing me off massively. Everyone has issues with everyone else. Nobody cares about anybody. Who gives a toss about the Oscars anyway.

believe in tipping

Cancel the race hustler right now!

OR her film was awful and was rightfully not included.

When it doesn’t perform well or doesn’t receive acclaim, fame, an Oscar, a sequel, etc. just call it racism.

Don’t mind me. I just came to see the terrible and/or uninformed hot takes in the replies. Carry on.

This is just embarrassing

So why work in such a racist industry? Why?

Because Emmett Till gave his life for a little gold statue that only serves the purpose of inflating the fragile ego’s of these so called artists.

Her work as a director in Till wasn't good.

🥱🥱🥱

The academy hasn't change is still full of white people ideas

Till is also an incredibly boring title.

Make better movie next time

You just wasn't good enough, get off the victim train,it's out of control, gonna crash and burn soon

It is about talent.. NOT colour 😡

Where does she show respect for the films and actors that were nominated? Selfishness and self pity…like a petulant teenager. It’s a bad look.

It’s the go to excuse these days. And why not, maybe she will gain some traction. It’s not the way I was taught or the way I taught my children to win and behave.

Film is subjective. you can't campare movies to each other and decide which one is better

Here we go again…. Please. It was not good enough. You need to be great for Oscar nominations.

What about Hoss Cartwright? He was the heart and soul of Bonanza and NEVER got an Oscar nomination!

Cope.

Perhaps, an American descendant of slavery —someone who shares the same lineage as Emmett Till — should have been selected to direct this film instead of a Nigerian American. With a director who shares historical connections to Till, perhaps the story would have been told better.

...sarah polley's film, Women Talking, is nominated as one of the BEST but she got nothin' for directing it. It's not just black women.

Bleh, those people are ridiculous.

Unabashed indeed. Shameful, truly.

Bullshit claim.

Honestly, not enough people liked or watched this movie. And secondly, maybe next time make a better movie because I heard Till could have been better. But black filmmakers in general need to stop making these black oppression type films. Do something different and outside t/box.

Oh my god stop fueling these insane theories!!! No one should get free passes because of gender or race and it should be based on talent!!! All best Director nominees this year are best of the best and no two words about it!!!

Repeating same sentiment, every time these narratives get published now - Wasn’t the Academy’s new membership literally engineered over the past few years for this not to happen, so, maybe… actual merit is in play here? Who do you remove to get her into the 5?

If we don't have Black people win a best actor/actress and best director this year, Hollywood is officially denylisted. ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

omg maybe just make a good film and learn how to lose 🤣🤣🤣
