Rick Singer has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.

Rick Singer, Mastermind of the 'Varsity Blues' College Cheating Scandal, Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prisonthat ensnared celebrities, prominent businesspeople and other parents who used their wealth and privilege to buy their kids' way into top-tier schools was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison Wednesday.

The scandal embarrassed elite universities across the country, put a spotlight on the secretive admissions system already seen as rigged in favor of the rich and laid bare the measures some parents will take to get their kids into the school of their choice. In a letter to the judge, Singer blamed his actions on his"winning at all costs" attitude, which he said was caused in part by suppressed childhood trauma. His lawyer is requesting three years of probation, or if the judge deems prison time necessary, six months behind bars.

Authorities in Boston began investigating the scheme after an executive under scrutiny for an unrelated securities fraud scheme told investigators that a Yale soccer coach had offered to help his daughter get into the school in exchange for cash. The Yale coach led authorities to Singer, whose cooperation unraveled the sprawling scandal.

Mastermind of the Varsity Blues college admission scandal is about to learn his fateRick Singer — the mastermind of the college admissions scandal from 2019 — is set to be sentenced on Wednesday. Singer pleaded guilty to making $25 million by selling what he called a “side door” into top universities. A just sentence for Singer would be 4 years at LibertyU tha muthafuka look like he sell organs... 😆not the one in church... 😅 Why send the dude to prison? Just fine him. The societal impact vs kids who applied to elite schools losing out just don’t amount to jail time, in my meager opinion. I never understood why Martha Stewart did time too. Just fine her cash. Jail isn’t always the answer.
