Met Office Christmas snow prediction for Lancashire as 'snow burst' to hit region

Lancashire is set to avoid snowfall over Christmas as a giant 'snow burst' is forecast to hit elsewhere in the region.

This could result in up to 7cm of snow covering much of North Wales as well as other parts of eastern England. The Met Office says the chances of widespread snow over December 25 and 26 is unlikely but there could be a dusting on elevated areas. After dropping to -9C in Lancashire last week, temperatures are now back firmly near double digits seemingly dashing the hopes of a White Christmas. Between Sunday and Tuesday it will remain breezy with some showers and sunny intervals.

Not far from Lancashire, forecaster WX Charts expects a large snow cloud to move over parts of North Wales in the early hours of Boxing Day morning. This could bring with it a dusting of snow on Christmas day itself meaning the chances of a white Christmas aren't scuppered entirely. Its projections show a giant snow cloud moving across the English Midlands, swirling around North Wales before heading across northern England later towards the North Sea later in the day. Further light flurries are possible on Wednesday over parts of North Wales.
