The Koonalda Cave is a sacred site for the indigenous Mirning People and a discovery that transformed scientists' understanding of history.

, the Koonalda Cave is home to art that dates back 22,000 years -- a sacred site for the indigenous Mirning People and a discovery that transformed scientists' understanding of history.

"The vandalism of Koonalda Cave is shocking and heartbreaking. Koonalda Cave is of significant importance to the Mirning People, and its tens of thousands of years of history show some of the earliest evidence of Aboriginal occupation in that part of the country," the spokesperson said.

As a sacred site, it is closed to the public and only accessible to a few male elders in the community, the group said in a statement. Apart from the cave's spiritual significance, the restrictions are also to protect the delicate art, some of which is etched into the cave floor. It added that as a site that represented the link to Mirning ancestors and home lands, Koonalda"is more than just a precious work of art, this runs deep in our blood and identity."For decades, Australian scientists believed the country's indigenous people had only existed on the land for about 8,000 years.

The cave art dating was assessed through archeological remains and finger markings, then confirmed using radiocarbon technology, according to the country's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

Why was this cave art only accessible to elder men of the tribes? It sounds like the tribe's ancestors made sure that the tribe suffered the justice they deserved. Maybe the tribe's women delivered that justice. I hope so.

What real human being can “like” something as heinous as this?

No protection I take it?

😠😢 Why

Why?

You are wrong, and I am going to tell you why 81

I imagine it horrified the non-indigenous people too. Stop dividing people into little boxes.

Site is not open to public but only accessible to few male elders in the community - so who are they asking the security from if it's closed and managed by their community? Anyway, i hope they catch those cowardly vandals for this stupid act.

Too badddd !!!

British colonialism is the worst

This is very sad.

I have the feeling that bad things will follow on this. Who knows what will wake up after 22,000 years of rest...

😥😥

Why would people do this? I hope they are brought to justice. So sorry.

Some people like to destroy the economy in Europe with sanctions that dont even work and people dont know how to pay their bills because of high energy prices. Prety horrifying for those poor people.

Racists, most likely. But do go on about how climate activists are the terrorists for blocking a road.

Why was it not better protected them or was it?

People are really sick these days.

white folks I bet
