How to make up to £250 a day as a film or TV extra

There are three main union agreements used by productions in and around London, but rates vary across the other parts of the country.

The basic daily rate under the FAA/PACT agreement is £92.69 for nine hours, the basic daily rate with BBC Equity agreement is £86.40, while it is £90.22 if you are hired under the ITV Equity agreement. However, you can earn more in a variety of ways – from doing overtime, which is paid by up to £10 an hour, to using your own clothes or agreeing to have your hair cut, which will earn you an extra £20.

Sometimes extras can be upgraded to “walk-ons”, which refers to someone who is required to do more complex actions and perhaps has to deliver a line of dialogue. This could earn you up to £250 a day.
