“My mom was telling me stories about when I was a little kid, I would say, ‘I’m gonna be on that show someday!’' Huntsville-based singer MeMe B. Jones says. 'And I still get chills anytime I think about it.”

The tattoo reads, “Dreama,” the name of her 5-year-old daughter.

“Anytime I’m getting ready to perform, I always look down at it,” says MeMe B. Jones, a singer based in Huntsville. “And I know that I’m doing this for my baby.”On Sept. 21, she performed as part of “Showtime at the Apollo,” the talent competition that grew out of the Harlem, N.Y. venue’s long running Amateur Night, which helped launch the careers of stars like James Brown, D’Angelo, Ella Fitzgerald, The Jackson 5, Gladys Night, Ronnie Spector, Jimi Hendrix and Billie Holliday.

Anchorage Community Theatre is, and has always been, a passion projectMatt Fernandez and David Block love theater, so much so that they've dedicated their lives to local theater, specifically the Anchorage Community Theatre. Community theater is a passion and is usually done not out of pay, but out of love for the art — stretching themselves thin to give local actors an outlet here in Anchorage and to give people the opportunity to catch live theatrical shows. Theater offers the beauty and danger of doing live shows with amateur actors and small stages. Why do they do it? They love it. And do they take themselves seriously? Of course they do, but they have a sense of humor and history about their craft and take great pride in getting shows off the ground and up and running. Theater passion is real and lives inside these two and the actors that choose to perform in local theater.
