BlackPanther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore says that Namor can not get a solo MCU movie, as they are 'borrowing' the character from Universal.

Warning: Spoilers For Black Panther: Wakanda Forever AheadBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore says Namor will not be featured in a solo movie. The Marvel character Namor made his highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was released in theaters this month.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY During a sit-down with The Wrap, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore revealed that while Namor "can return," but not in a standalone film. According to Marvel Studios' deal with Universal Pictures, Namor can only appear alone in marketing materials as long as it's within a series of posters, and the character cannot appear in a solo MCU movie.

“It honestly affects us more, and not to talk too much out of school, but in how we market the film than it does how we use him in the film. There weren’t really things we couldn’t do from a character perspective for him, which is good because clearly, we took a ton of inspiration from the source material, but we also made some big changes to really anchor him in that world in a truth that publishing never really landed on, I would argue, in a big way.

The complicated rights issues that have somewhat plagued Marvel Studios since the beginning of the MCU in 2008 are mainly due to the company's former policy of selling the rights to Marvel characters to other studios, which stemmed from the company facing issues with bankruptcy in the '90s. That previous arrangement is the reason that Fox was able to create an X-Men franchise and that no Hulk movies beyond The Incredible Hulk exist in the MCU.

Sony still owns the rights to several Spider-Man adjacent characters, including Venom, and still retains film rights over Spider-Man, which is why the Tom Holland-led trilogy is not on Disney+. However, the MCU's ability to create plenty of content around the character of Spider-Man despite not exclusively owning the rights bodes well for Namor's future in the franchise.

Except the two characters have absolutely nothing in common other than water. Hell, MCU Namor doesn't even get to fight T'Challa which really makes him completely different than comics Namor.

MARVEL is open to the conversation if UNIVERSAL is.

It’ll be apart of the buyout deal for Hulu full control.

Tbh they've reinvented the character enough for them to own this version. They should get the legal team on this. Technically he's not even called Namor. He's K’uk’ulkan or 'sin amor'. Niether are 'Namor'. He aint even from Atlantis.

Why am i not surprised

Well yes we all knew that universal owns namor same deal as hulk.

_SuperNow It’s na moor 🤣

WaltDisneyCo Kevfeige MarvelStudios I thought those rights along with the Hulk had already passed to Disney and Marvel. Now I understand why Namor and the Mayan Atlantis were reduced to unattractive visual concepts. Everything makes sense. 🤯

An unfortunate Hulk situation

Universal haven't done shit with Namor for over 20 years. Just sell it back to marvel already bro

Fine. Use him again. Or let UniversalPics make it. But keep doing whatever you just did with that character!

Damn

Ok you know what UniversalPics we had enough of you guys not letting Marvel Studios make a Hulk movie and now your not letting them make a Namor movie, your not even using them! If you don't give the Hulk and Namor rights back to Marvel we are gonna boycott your movies😡🤬

And Universal never did a single thing with the character

So a Darcey and Namor movie then?

What about a really expensive Disney+ show?

That’s absolutely selfish by UniversalPics

So it’s like Hulk where Namir can appear in anything just can’t have their own movie

As much as I want a Namor movie more than an armor wars movie, I think it’s good that we don’t have another solo film because the MCU is already larger.
