As development continues on his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Ryan Reynolds recalls details of a scrapped Deadpool Christmas movie. Reynolds has scored critical acclaim for his performance as the quick-witted Merc with a Mouth, even garnering a Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance in the original Deadpool movie.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with The Big Issue, Ryan Reynolds opened up about his tenure in the Deadpool franchise. The actor/co-writer/producer reveals he once co-wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick helping to pen the script, only for the Disney-Fox merger to see it scrapped. See what Reynolds shared below:
Four years ago [‘Deadpool' co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox, and it never got made. Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.
With Reynolds teasing his interest in reviving the scrapped Deadpool Christmas movie, it seems possible the project could see the light of day in the future. The actor/producer seems devoted as ever to making the character's future as exciting as ever for fans as he heads into the MCU, even bringing back Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine for a long-awaited crossover between the two characters.
Given the holiday season has seen a variety of hits in the R-rated action field thanks to the likes of the Christmas-set Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, it would further be interesting to see whether a Christmas Deadpool movie would choose to break away from its comic book skewering to lampoon a prior genre classic.
Glad they haven't turned Deadpool a chick-Flick... yet
Sounds perfect for a Marvel Special Presentation
