The Vermont theatrical collective hands out sourdough but also deals in controversial political topics in its latest show, 'The Apocalypse Defiance Circus.'

The Bread and Puppet Theater started in New York nearly 60 years ago though it has been based in Vermont for more than half a century.It’s easy to feel like the world is ending after years of devastating plague, ecological disasters, and political turmoil. The famous Bread and Puppet Theatre is coming to Houston to turn that frown upside-down with their latest show,"The Apocalypse Defiance Circus.

Bread and Puppet was founded by Peter and Elka Schumann in New York City in the 1960s and has remained a powerful form of touring collective theater. The bread they bake and hand out at shows is the same German sourdough rye that Peter made in community ovens when he fled to Western Germany from Silesia after the Second World War.
